VOLUNTEERING

We Couldn’t Do It Without You

Thank you for your interest in connecting with others as a volunteer at Walk MS.
The success of Walk MS is directly related to the wonderful volunteers who help
make the event a great experience. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of
skills, talents, abilities and interests. Families, corporate groups, and individuals
are welcome to participate.

Your donation of time is greatly appreciated and needed to create successful events. From pre-event planning to day-of implementation, it takes hundreds of volunteers to make Walk MS successful.

The only requirement we have of you is a sincere desire to help us end MS forever.

Sign-up to Volunteer

**Our computer registration system only allows you to sign up as a volunteer or a walker, not both. If you would like to both walk the route and volunteer at the event, register as a walker and then contact the volunteer coordinator about volunteering. No matter how you decide to participate, you can still fundraise and be eligible for prizes and incentives.

Volunteer Positions

Each Walk MS location has different needs. Below are examples of some of the available volunteer positions.

Set-Up;

Join us in the morning to set up and prepare the site for the day’s events. Jobs may involve unloading and distributing supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and hanging banners and signage. Set-up may be different at each site and may involve a variety of tasks, but your help is critical in ensuring that everything is ready to go before the walkers arrive! (lifting involved) Some locations need volunteers to help setting up the night before. Great for teens and groups!

Registration/Check-In Area:

Registration/check-in volunteers help participants get registered or check them in if they have already registered. This is where fundraising gets turned in and participants receive the supplies and information they need. Other types of help are also needed in this area:  Line Assistants are needed to make sure all participants are prepared to check in and keep the lines moving. Prize Runners gather the prizes for participants and deliver them to registration volunteers (Great for kids!).

Volunteer Check-In:

Never fear, the volunteers are here! You will check in volunteers and make sure they have their assignments and understand what to do.

Greeters:

Greeters will welcome walkers and direct them to the appropriate areas at the walk site, ensure registration lines are moving quickly and that walkers have all necessary materials complete before they get to the front of the line, and answer questions as needed.

Food:

Set up tables and bag the food for participants (snack packs). Keep check-in volunteers stocked with snack bags. Clean up check-in and food areas. In some walk locations, volunteers will be bagging the food the night before the event. Great for families and groups!

Rest Stop:

Set up rest stop supplies and re-stock supplies as needed. You will create a fun atmosphere for all by cheering and providing food and beverages for participants as they take a short rest.

Signage:

Signage volunteers arrive early and place all banners and signage around the main site, creating the right atmostphere for Walk MS. Great for families and groups!

Professional:

Got a special talent? Share your skills with Walk MS participants to make it a memorable experience for all. (Massage therapists, comedians, musicians, face-painters, truck drivers, etc.)

Photography:

Say cheese! Photographers are needed to take team photos, start and finish line photos, and route and celebration photos. We also need volunteers who can help the photographers to round up teams and keep the photo area moving smoothly.

Route Support:

Ensure that all walkers have a safe and enjoyable experience by setting up rest stops, route markings, and signage along the route. You will also be assisting participants and keeping the route clean and safe.

Finish Line Celebration:

Let's party! This is the time for celebration! Finish Line volunteers will cheer walkers across the finish line and celebrate with walkers as they return! Great experience for families and groups and an alternative for those who aren't up to walking the route.

Clean Up:

Clean up volunteers are all-stars! You will help clean up the site, pack supplies, and remove banners and signage. (lifting involved)
